Correction: Right-hand side of the screen. Clearly, I need more coffee.

"FYI: You can also find the temperature (as well as wind conditions) at www.covers.com. Just click through to MLB, then pick the game match up, and then scroll down. You will see the weather conditions about two-thirds of the way down the screen on the left-hand side."

I think you mean on the right hand side, or at least that is where I am seeing it (not trying to be a wise-ass, just not sure if there's some setting somewhere that would change where it shows up).

This is a good place to check, since the temperature which eventually goes into the database comes from the box score at covers.

Covers says that they get the temperature from accuweather.com

Unfortunately (unless someone knows differently - I looked around the accuweather site and also called and asked), accuweather.com doesn't have any option to get the weather for MLB games other than if you know the zip code, or city for each MLB team's stadium.

I know these can be documented, I was just hoping that they might have something similar to weather.com where you can look at the weather specifically for upcoming MLB games, and click on the detailed forecast link).

Anyway, that's probably more info than anyone wanted, but just sharing what I've learned while looking into this.

Bart

Just to make this somewhat more convoluted, I just discovered that there is a value for temperature named

Indoors

As opposed to having an actual number value, games played in a retractable dome (or non-retractable in the case of Tropicana field), I'm guessing when the dome is in place, fall into this category.

Here's a list of home games and years where I see anything listed for Indoors.

MIN 2008
TAM 2004-present
WAS 2004
ARI 2004, 2005, 2007
MIL 2004, 2005, 2008-present
TOR 2004-present, but none in 2009
HOU 2009

So, these games are not included in the prior numbers.

The good news is that they have been slightly above breakeven,

71-86 +420

with the more recent seasons doing better than the first few

2010 08-05 +535
2009 10-09 +310
2008 10-11 +070
2007 15-12 +725
2006 06-13 -435
2005 13-20 -395
2004 09-16 -390

Anyway, in case it comes up, thought it was worth mentioning.

Azmat

Is this the Fav (-) or Dog (+) line you refer to?
How about exact 180, not qualified?

1. line of less than 180

I checked weather.com in Ballpark's ZIP code HOURLY Temp forecast (time listed are local time)
had the following plays, and 'possible' plays (fav line at -180)

Above poster listed OAK as play but I checked 1pm local time OAK should be 60F that will require final check on temp when close to game time.
Same to CIN, checked 60F at game time temp.

NL
ATL/WAS (ATL-155, Y-DIV, N-S/O, 54F)
AL
CWS/CLE (CWS-140, Y-DIV, N-S/O, 47F)

I had the impression that line less than 180 meant the dog had to be under 180.

Usually the Fav line is listed, and then books will have slightly different line on dogs, example DIME Lines, thus make it hard to decide dog's (+) line. So I think Azmat means Fav line has to be less than -180 ... JMHO

And I think the search / query formula should be based on Fav 180

ANOTHER Q : Is DOOM INDOOR stadium a play or not, as outdoor temp won't affect indoor temp? Some with top open / close.

If you look at the link provided and scroll through last years plays:

04-17-2010 away Royals Meche - R Twins Blackburn - R

This was one of the qualifiers. KC were +170 that day and Twins were actually -182 which means if the plays were based on fav -180 or lower this would not appear as a play in my opinion.

Again I might be mistaking cause this is not my system.

I think the 180 refers to the dog line. With that said, I see Cubs at -175 right now so I played the Pirates today.

FYI:

The betting public is correct when moving the money line in PITTSBURGH games 0% of the time since 1997. (0-880, 12.5 units)

0-880 won't lose 12.5 units that small. Must be error. And usually there are (-) or (+) in front, but no such symbol left of this 12.5

Milwaukee may be a scratch today as the current temp (according to weather.com is 59 degrees.

WCPO weather is showing 54 degrees, and the local FOX19 is showing 58 degrees.

All three above are forecasting the temperature to be 61 at 1:00 pm local time.

I find that Pirate stat of 0-880 hard to believe. Is it meant as a joke?
