You can now bet on which horse will die.

i live 20 miles from the track....NYRA has wrecked this place very badly. the picnic and cooler crowd has taken over the track with their 10 cent pick 5's and triples. people that
want to gamble go to OTB now. a shame.

Race 6

Can Trixies Time wire this field at a big number? Rudy piece to the outside might make it tough. But Rudy routing on turf at Spa typically a losing proposition.

Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap (5:44 p.m. ET): Mitole (#1) will be a popular pick this week and for good reason. He’s on a seven-race winning streak and enters off Grade 1 wins in the Churchill Downs Stakes presented by Twinspires.com on May 4 and the Runhappy Metropolitan Handicap on June 8. His career-best 125 Equibase Speed Figure is tied with Imperial Hint (#3) for best in the field. Mitole is the play for me, but with a lot of long streaks on the line it’s worth reminding players that Saratoga Race Course has a history of upsets. The Vanderbilt drew a quality field that also includes Imperial Hint, who finished in the top three in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint in 2017 and 2018; Strike Power (#2) coming off a half-length loss to Catalina Cruiser; and recent Grade 3 Smile Sprint Stakes winner Diamond Oops (#6).

Bowling Green Handicap (6:18 p.m. ET): This race drew an evenly-matched group of 13, many of whom have run well on the turf at Saratoga, including four with wins on this turf course. The race drew Channel Maker (#5), who won this race in a dead heat with Glorious Empire a year ago, and 2018 Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf third-place finisher Sadler’s Joy (#2), who probably will vie for favoritism. Channel Maker is in good form and loves this turf course, while Sadler’s Joy has not raced since the Breeders’ Cup and the 8 ½-month layoff is a concern.

Amsterdam Stakes (6:38 p.m. ET): This is a race where if you have a strong opinion, you could make a lot of money as I’ll bet we see most of the 12 entrants in the 3-1 to 9-1 odds range. It’s not, however, a good spot for a Stay Lucky play. Even though there are quite a few stakes winners in here, I like the outside horse Shancelot (#12), who is 2-for-2 and making his stakes debut. I love the outside post position for a horse with early speed in a sprint and I think the odds will be right.

Saturday’s Whitney Stakes at Saratoga Race Course is the next step on the Road to the Breeders’ Cup for horses targeting the $6 million Breeders' Cup Classic Nov. 2 at Santa Anita Park.

The 1 1/8-mile Whitney, a Challenge Series “Win and You’re In” qualifying race for the Classic, is shaping up to be a very important race in determining top contenders for the signature race at this year’s World Championships as it drew an eight-horse field highlighted by $16 million earner Thunder Snow, Grade 1 winners McKinzie, Vino Rosso, and Yoshida, and rising star Preservationist.

The Grade 1, $1 million Whitney will be televised during NBC Sports' “Win and You’re In” broadcast presented by America’s Best Racing. The broadcast will air on NBCSN from 5-6 p.m. ET. The Whitney Stakes is named to honor C.V. and Marylou Whitney, titans of the sport in the Saratoga Springs area and nationwide. Marylou Whitney, who died on July 19, will be inducted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 2.
