Sharps Report- Monday Night Football
All of this week’s marquee matchups in the NFL were jammed into Sunday. But, that doesn’t mean that Monday Night’s NY Jets-Tennessee Titans matchup isn’t worth your attention. Before you decide how to handle tonight’s game, you should know what professional wagerers in Las Vegas are doing with their money.
NY JETS at TENNESSEE
Opening Line: Tennessee by 1, total of 42.5
Current Line: Tennessee by 1.5, total of 41.5
You can see that sharps haven’t been betting this game aggressively yet. A brief synopsis of what we’re hearing from our sources:
*Sharps aren’t buying into the “must-win” angle for the Jets. You probably know that New York is still in the AFC Wildcard race. They have the easiest schedule left of contenders, and both Pittsburgh and Indianapolis lost their games on Sunday. Sharps who did get involved here bet Tennessee. No sharps jumped on the Jets after the Steelers and Colts lost. There just is no early inkling of Jets support from sharps as a small dog, even though New York needs the game badly.
*Sharps who are rooting for the Jets are doing so in two-team teasers. The Jets became a qualifier for basic strategy two-team teasers when that line moved to +1.5. That meant you could cross the 3 and the 7 with a tease and get the Jets +7.5. Of course, sharps who teased the Jets with the NY Giants or with Baltimore have already lost those bets. Those who teased the Jets with Miami, Houston (early), or Dallas are still live. We should note that sharps who have access to “open-ended” teasers or early betting lines for next week will try to tie up the Jets +7.5 with options from Week 16.
*Sharp sentiment for Tennessee was muted, which is why the game only moved half a point. We’re beneath a key number. Real passion for the home team would have moved the number closer to three, and might have even touched the three. It’s best to say that sharps have largely passed this game through the week. Those who bet the team side line are rooting for the Titans.
*Sharps will fade any public money that comes in on game day, regardless of direction. Were squares to hit the Jets because of the “must-win” angle, they would take Tennessee at pick-em. Were squares to hit Tennessee, sharps would expand their teaser positions at an even better number…and would certainly hit the dog if the line made it up to a field goal. Sharps agree with where oddsmakers posted the game. They will disagree with wherever the public might move it.
For now…sharps are playing a waiting game. Those who bet preferred Tennessee and Under (or the Jets in teasers). Most felt the best options of the week came yesterday. Good options may present themselves before kickoff though if public money moves the line.
