Houstonfan,

Dont feel bad. I capped same plays the same way you had and simply changed mind about posting this morning and decided to stay on sideline. Hopefully will get some breaks over next few days.

Denmark vs. Australia, 8.am. ET, Fox Sports 1
Australia +353
Denmark -103
Draw +245
Bet to Watch:
Denmark to win -103

Denmark won their first match against Peru, 1-0, thanks in part to Peru’s Christian Cueva skying a penalty kick into the lower stratosphere. It was a difficult match for Denmark, who frequently struggled to cope with Peru’s high-octane approach. They were outshot 17-10 and out-possessed 53% to 47%. But Denmark has Christian Eriksen, and in the 59th minute, he orchestrated a counterattack, playing Yussuf Poulsen through on goal.

Eriksen’s task against Australia will be different. Against France, Australia played a conservative defensive game, but they didn’t sit deep; instead they opted to congest the midfield and make themselves difficult to pass through, while daring France to slice them open and get in behind, which is eventually exactly what happened. Erisken, rather than trying to slow a frantic game down versus Peru, will need to orchestrate an attack against an organized and set defense.

Expect Eriksen to have extremely tight spaces to work in, and frequently be forced to either recycle possession or try to wriggle between two or three closely positioned Australian defenders before attempting to find a game-changing pass. But, this is exactly how Eriksen excels, and if Australia give him enough chances, he’ll eventually make them pay.

Peru vs. France, 11 a.m. ET, Fox
France -165
Peru +549
Draw +312
Bet to Watch:
Both Teams To Score +108 (Bookmaker)

While the group openers for both France and Peru ended as the odds forecasted, in reality the result in both matches was somewhat unjustified, or at least highly dependent on luck.

Les Bleus were perhaps the better side in their victory over Australia but remained unconvincing, and reports suggest that a change in both formation and personnel are in the cards. Didier Deschamps’ men required a VAR-assisted penalty and a freak own goal to win 2-1 and looked short of how a pre-tournament favorite should at either end of the pitch.

The coach is set to opt for experience against a side that should pose more problems than the Socceroos, with Blaise Matuidi and Olivier Giroud coming in for Corentin Tolisso and Ousmane Dembele, respectively. The tactic will likely switch from an open and expansive 4-3-3 that offered little protection to two inexperienced fullbacks to a more regimented 4-2-3-1 in order to match up with their opponents this Thursday.

Peru, after all, are a side that look to utilize swift counter attacks when possible and exploit any over-eagerness from the opposition. They could consider themselves unfortunate not to pick up all three points against Denmark — let alone lose the game — but Los Incas were wasteful with their 17 attempts, including a wayward spot-kick from Christian Cueva.

The return, then, of captain and all-time top scorer Paolo Guerrero should give Ricardo Gareca’s side more of a cutting edge, not to mention a real physical presence in the box, but France’s ability to launch breaks of their own will still be a concern. The goal that Denmark scored against the South Americans was a well-constructed counter after all, so Peru are certainly vulnerable in that regard, which should lead to an entertaining game.

The influence of the earlier kickoff between Denmark and Australia in Group C can’t be underestimated either, with a win for the latter relieving a huge amount of pressure from the underdogs in this one. If the Danes earn so much as a point, however, Peru know that they will need to at least match that and while they really know only one way to play anyway, it could ensure that this game is extremely open.

The attacks for both sides are certainly — on paper at least — stronger than their defenses, and while I’d find it difficult to back Peru outright, their international know-how up against an inexperienced back four for France should result in goals at both ends.

Denmark vs. Australia, Group C
8 a.m. ET

Public bettors are backing Australia (+325) in this one after their impressive, but losing, performance vs. France. The Socceroos have received nearly 40% of the moneyline tickets compared to 43% for favorite Denmark (+102), and they’re getting the same amount of support on the spread (+0.5 goals).

Denmark were a bit fortunate to beat Peru in the group opener, and bettors aren’t rushing to take them against the Aussies. If you believe in fading the trendy underdog, this may be a good spot to take Denmark or the draw.

Over/Under bettors are fairly split with 60% on over 2 goals and 40% on under 2 goals.

France vs. Peru, Group C
11 a.m. ET

Sharp bettors were clearly impressed with Peru after their opening match and less than thrilled with France — the South American underdogs have moved from +750 to +550 over the last couple days to pull off the upset.

It won’t be easy against an extremely talented France team, but the European favorites have dropped significantly from -210 to -166.

Public bettors have joined the sharps to the tune of 38% of tickets on Peru, compared to 52% for France. The remaining 10% are taking a shot on the draw (+313).

More than 80% of bettors have taken over 2.5 goals, but juice is shifting toward the under.

Argentina vs. Croatia, Group D
2 p.m. ET

Is it already time to get nervous for Argentina fans and bettors? Their odds to beat Croatia keep getting worse and are now at +120 after they were -105 just a few days ago. Lionel Messi and company are still receiving 60% of the ticket action, but 30% has come in on a Croatia mini-upset.

A draw would be a fantastic result for Croatia, but again there’s just 10% of the action on the tie (+238).

Over 2 goals is receiving lopsided action (70%), but yet again the juice has been moving toward the under.

This is group stage, so teams are calculating. Denmark has a win in the bag and will still have to play France. They will be looking for a result, but not at all costs. Australia will be playing Peru in the last game, with a good chance that Peru will be eliminated after their game against France. The Ozzies don't have to win either ... Basically, Denmark and Australia are approaching this game as a battle for the second spot in the group, with neither having to win at all costs.

The Ozzie coach is Van Marwijk, who coached Holland to the WC final against Spain in 2010. I would qualify him as a typical tournament coach. Denmark is a rather average European side, and Van Marwijk will be more than familiar with their star player Eriksen, who played at Ajax before moving to Tottenham.

I don't see much value in this WC, so decided on a synthetic parlay for the tournament. This is game 2 in that string of conservative plays.

Australia +0.75 -162
