Peru vs. Australia, 10 a.m. ET Tuesday, Fox Sports 1
Peru +152
Australia +209
Draw +237
Bet To Watch
Peru +152

Peru have already been eliminated from the World Cup, but that won’t stop them from trying to beat Australia to avoid finishing last in Group C. They’ve looked dangerous in attack and have been hungry to get a result, but never got the lucky break they needed vs. France or Denmark.

Meanwhile, the Socceroos need to get a victory to have any chance of advancing to the Round of 16 after they rescued a point against Denmark. Just like Peru, they’ve been unable to score during the run of play, but the difference is two converted penalty kicks, one in each match.

I’m not giving up on Peru despite losing wagers in their first two games and a futures bet on them to advance. They’ve actually played very well against two solid teams but just haven’t been able to find the back of the net in consecutive 1-0 losses. Their xG (expected goals) against Denmark was 1.63, proving how frustrating these games have been. After 27 shots and eight on target, that elusive first goal is coming.

Australia have conceded in 12 straight World Cup matches, and this should be number 13. The team total for Peru is listed at 1 goal, but if you can somehow find 0.5 goals, that’s definitely worth a wager as well.

Despite the match technically being more meaningful to Australia than Peru, I’m backing the more talented team that has looked better to get all three points here.

AUS has conceded at least one goal in 12 straight World Cup Finals games.

PER has attempted a total of 28 shots in their two games in this tournament.

Argentina vs. Nigeria, 2 p.m. ET Tuesday, Fox
Argentina -181
Nigeria +565
Draw +338
Bet To Watch
Argentina -181

Argentina have been a polarizing team this World Cup, even for their biggest supporters and backers (like me). They were downright embarrassing in a 3-0 loss to Croatia and were unable to keep their composure when things got the slightest bit difficult.

The disarray has ranged from top to bottom. There have been issues with their head coach, Jorge Sampaoli, as well as backup goalkeeping blunders, defensive mishaps, slow midfield play and a lack of creativity in attack. For a team as talented as Argentina, these things shouldn’t be happening, especially with Lionel Messi in the mix. You could visibly see the pressure and nerves getting to them as things became worse throughout the match.

This was certainly not the start that Argentina was hoping for at the World Cup, but for as bad as things have been, they can turn it all around with a win over Nigeria. The African squad is the youngest in the tournament and also looked unimpressive against Croatia, although it did look much better in the second half of their 2-0 victory over Iceland.

The betting market has been fascinating to watch for this match. Public bettors have lost faith in the South Americans as they’re receiving fewer than 40% of moneyline tickets despite being -181 favorites. Nigeria are very trendy underdogs (+581), attracting nearly 50% of support, but the line has shifted toward Argentina since Sunday.

This is a rare spot to take a contrarian favorite while also following a bit of sharp money, and odds will likely rise by game time. Argentina can put the last two games behind them and flip the switch against Nigeria, but it will obviously take a better effort than they’ve shown.

This will be the fifth meeting between Argentina and Nigeria in a World Cup. Argentina have been victorious in the previous four, all by one-goal margins, including the match in 1994 at Foxboro Stadium,

Peru vs. Australia, Group C
10 a.m. ET

Peru (55% of bets) are getting the majority of support as the slight favorites to notch their first win, and the bookmakers have slashed their odds from +161 to +135 over the last several days.

Even though Los Incas have yet to score, the game total (2.5) indicates they’re likely grab at least one. They’ve already been eliminated but could spoil any hopes of Australia advancing, and will want to leave the World Cup on a positive note.

France vs. Denmark, Group C
10 a.m. ET

Even though Denmark and the draw were attracting the majority of tickets in the early betting, the line has shaded toward France in this one. Still, they’re not the odds-on favorites and are currently being offered at +117 despite an overwhelming 71% of moneyline bets.

A draw would be good enough for France to win Group C, but that could still line up Argentina as their opponent in the Round of 16. Croatia, Nigeria and Iceland are all still in play as well for Les Bleus. If you’re going contrarian in this game, Denmark +0.5 would be the best option.

The total is at just 2 goals, and bettors are having no problem taking the over.

Argentina vs. Nigeria, Group D
2 p.m. ET

It was a monster day for contrarian bettors on Monday as none of the heavy favorites (Portugal, Spain, Egypt) was able to get a win.

On Tuesday, we’ve seen the public shift gears, as Nigeria (+547) are getting more than half the moneyline tickets to beat Argentina (-183). Of course the South Americans looked terrible last match, but they have a chance to turn things around and forget about the past.

This is one of the few times you’ll see a big favorite getting such low support. Sharp money has also been moving the odds toward Argentina, another good sign if you fancy backing the under-performers.

Croatia vs. Iceland, Group D
2 p.m. ET

Croatia are in great shape to win the group even with a loss to Iceland, and they’ll likely shuffle the starting lineup to avoid injuries and suspensions. Accordingly, their odds moved from +145 to +115 over the weekend.

Public bettors don’t seem to mind as the Croatians have garnered nearly 80% of support. They’ve looked incredible the first couple matches and have no pressure in the final game, but a win isn’t a must. The obviously contrarian play here would be to take Iceland +0.5 (-137) if you want to fade the masses.

Tuesday

Peru tt over 1 -200
I hate laying this number but Peru have not scored yet and they are far to good to not have found the goal yet. Already knocked out or not I think they get at least one here for there fans and don't leave this WC with a bad taste in there mouth.

France +110
This might have the makings of a boring match with the draw being the most likely outcome but I think France will play for the win here. A loss means they finish 2nd in the group and most likely get Croatia in the knockout 1st round. A draw for Denmark is all they need to advance. There is some history with these two countries and the WC, in 2002 Denmark was responsible for eliminating France and while many of these players were not involved in that the history is what it is.

Nice call on the France draw HF

my early results 1-1 0.00 (exciting!)

Argentina -2 +241
I have been so unimpressed with Argentina in the WC so far. The first round draw to Iceland was an embarrassment IMO, and then a 3-0 loss to Croatia. The odds are against them now even though many books have them -135 to advance which is telling to me. If Iceland and Croatia draw say 1-1 then Argentina is going to need a 2 or more goal victory. Going out on a limb here and thinking they win by at least that margin.

Croatia/Iceland draw +282
Not a whole lot of motivation for Croatia here however a pretty big line move at 5dimes towards Croatia. I had them at +124 last night and now show -115 which again is pretty telling. I'm just having a hard time finding motivation enough for Croatia to risk being at full strength for the knockout stage. I'll play the draw and throw a little on exact result 1-1 +620 (not included on WC record)

A tie between Croatia/Iceland means Argentina need only to win against Nigeria. Goal differential wouldn't come into play. However, if Iceland wins by a goal, Argentina would indeed need to win by 2 or more.
