MLB and NBA Tuesday, June 18

MLB

Going to try something a little different today. Atlanta and Boston each hosts a day-night doubleheader. The Braves entertain the New York Mets and the Red Sox take on Tampa Bay. Granted, anything can happen on any given day, so I'll keep the risk low (1 unit = 1% of BR). I'm going to bet the Braves and Red Sox don't get swept at home today. I'll just play for 1 win for each home team in each twinbill. If either Atlanta or Boston loses its afternoon game, then I will play them to win 2 units in the nightcap. If Atlanta wins in the afternoon, that's it for them today. Same with Boston. The idea is to pick up 1 unit on each team for the day.

Boston is 21-14 at home while Tampa Bay is 15-17 on the road this season. Atlanta is 24-8 at home while the Mets are 11-17 on the road. So combined, you've got two teams with a combined home mark of 45-22 (67.2%) against visitors with a combined road record of 26-34 (43.3%). Those records will look meaningless if the Sox and Braves do get swept today, but I think it's worth a shot.

So, here are plays for the afternoon games:

Atlanta -114 to win 1 unit.
Boston -117 to win 1 unit.

Atlanta-NYM starts at 1:10 p.m. EDT. Boston-Tampa Bay starts at 1:05 p.m. EDT.

If I need to play the evening games, the current prices are:

Atlanta -172
Boston -148

Obviously, it would be nice to get 'em both over in the afternoon.

Also, here's a half-unit parlay. These are mainly just for fun. Obviously, the odds of hitting a 5-teamer are pretty remote, but I'm willing to go a half-unit with a load of mound aces going today. I'll update later today with the exact payoff (waiting on Detroit). But here are the teams and starting pitchers to be listed.

Texas (Darvish)
Philadelphia (Lee)
Cincinnati (Latos)
Detroit (Verlander)
St. Louis (Wainwright)

NBA Finals

San Antonio +7 (-105 reduced at 5D)

San Antonio -135 to win the series (pending). This was posted after the Spurs won Game 1.

Yeah, Mike I agree the Heat will come out smokin' like Joe Frazier in the first half. I'm just thinking the Spurs have enough character to keep it reasonably close down the stretch. I do think we'll see a 7th game. If tonight is a Miami blowout and the Heat are favored by even more in Game 7, I will likely take the points again as long as the Spurs are healthy. Not overly confident of that series bet, but I'll stick with it and see what happens.

parlay payout

Verlander checks in at -225 on the ML @ 5D. So we're looking at a 5-teamer that would pay 3.8 units on a half-unit wager. As always, just for fun on these. GL.

Edit post. Sorry, thought the Boston score was final. It's in a delay.

Atlanta -114 ... Loss

Game 2: Atlanta -189. Action. Betting 4 units to win 2.14.

Will be back later with Boston-Tampa Bay when that game is final.

GL. I'll stick with the full-game play on the Spurs. Hope it's a close one.

In bases hoping Boston holds its 5-1 lead in the 8th. If they lose, I'll be playing Boston at -143 to win 2.17 units in the second game. That would mean betting 3.1 units. Hope that's not necessary.

Boston -117 ... Win. So, no play in the nightcap.

Win - Boston +1.0 units

2 Losses - Atlanta -5.14 (thanks for showing up, Braves.)

Loss - Parlay -0.50 (a fine 1-4 mark)

Win - San Antonio +1.0 unit

Overall: 2-3 for -3.64 units
