The Detroit Tigers look to even their American League Divisional Series with the Cleveland Guardians on the road on Monday. They turn to ace starting pitcher Tarik Skubal to do so.

Skubal will win the American League Cy Young Award barring something unforeseen. He posted an 18-4 record with a 2.39 ERA with 10.6 strikeouts to 1.6 walks per nine innings.

To make things all the more daunting for the Guardians’ offense, from August 1 until the end of the regular season, the Tigers owned the best bullpen ERA in the American League with a 2.71 ERA. The Guardians’ 2.52 bullpen ERA between the regular season and postseason is number one in the league.

Guardians starting pitcher Matthew Boyd had a 2.72 ERA with 10.4 strikeouts per nine innings during the regular season, but it did come in a bit of a small sample size of eight starts and 39 2/3 innings.

The Tigers 4.2 runs per game during the regular season ranked 20th in the league, but from August 13 until the end of the regular season, they ranked fourth in the American League in runs per game with over 4.4 runs per game.

With Cleveland’s 4.7 runs per game at home ranking 10th in the league, the total of six in this game has been driven down too low despite the good pitching that will be on display on Monday.
