Bonnies 98...Hawks 93
That was the score last week, when these 2 played a double OT game at the Bonnies home court. The Bonnies literally put a beat-down on them on the boards. They had a ton of second shots. Led in offensive rebounding 18-4. Total rebounds ... 44-29. This was done mainly because the Bonnies wanted it more, but also because Kanacevic and Roberts were in foul trouble most of the night. They both ended up fouling out. From every article I read, Martelli says hitting the glass has to be the main focus today.
Nicholson had a huge nite...32 and 14. To top it off, he hit 2 big 3 pointers in the second OT to clinch the win...(and luckily, my 5* cover!) I don't look for him to be hitting those bombs today. As noted all year, neither of these teams have played good on the road. St Joe's has to limit him to around the 20/10 mark to win this one. They have the bodies to do that, if the zebras let them play.
Roberts is a force off the bench ..... the A-10's 6th Man of the Year. The Bonnies have a freshman, Kloof, trying to contain Jones at the point. Not going to happen. Galloway at the 2 guard, is as smooth a shooter as there is in the A-10. In the middle, Aiken...A-10's leading shot blocker, has to limit Nicholson's offensive rebounds. He won't shut him down, but as a team, I think they'll be concentrating on doing that. Kanacevic gets a bunch of garbage points himself.
In total, the Bonnies don't have the firepower to shoot it up with St Joe's. They hit 10-18 from 3 range last time. That was an anomaly for this team. Plainly put, they just play better at home.
I really think this will be a double digit win for the Hawks. I took a flyer on them at +1000 to win the whole thing also. If they win, they play the winner of Temple/UMass. They have beaten both these teams already. If they then make the final, I'll look to hedge a piece of it.
Good Luck to anyone playing this one.

Temple/UMass....noon
Last week UMass lost at Temple, 90-88 in OT. They were tied at 80 in regulation. This game came on Senior Night for Temple and immediately following a huge Big 5 game loss to St Joe's. There's no doubt which team is more talented here. And better coached. I really like Kellogg, but Dunphy just has more experience in these situations. Temple, historically, owns this tourney. With 3 starting seniors, they'll be tough to beat in this one also.
UMass is a lot of fun to watch. Chaz Williams pushes the tempo....always. He is just a sophmore, and at times, turns it over too much. UMass creates a ton of turnovers themselves. They turned Xavier over 18 times....in one half. They don't play traditional defense. They are kind of like Duq, in they jump the passing lanes. Long arms.
With that said, Temple's 3 guards, (all 6'4"), are top notch. It's hard for me not to make a play on the Owls here. 7-8 is right on the backdoor step, I'm thinking. Especially since Dunphy will be taking into account, the possibility of 3 games in 3 days aspect of this tourney.
This play is hard for me to make, but my gut tells me Dunphy will not want to run with these guys this morning. They can and will run, if the game turns out that way. But past history dictates, Dunphy can be the master of the half court defense, if need be. This seems like today fits into one of those times. Against everything I've watched this year between these 2 teams, and going against all the stats.....
