5-11, 4-12, 4-11, 13-2... The over/under records of four of today's home plate umpires.
Vanover (4-12) is coming off an over and hasn't had two in a row all season. Today PHI @ PIT.
Montague (13-2) is coming off an under, with his only other on April 23rd. Today BOS @ TEX.
Another interesting number is 2-13, the home/away team wins when Hohn is calling the strikes. Hohn is coming off one of his two home team wins. Today LOS @ COL.
I should add that, since these aren't large universes, the records could simply be due to the random distribution of numbers that often results in short term imbalances, but in the long run evens out. In other words, to be viewed as ingredient, not as the dish.
I've only been using refs as a filter, but am beginning to wonder if umpires can be played 'straight up'. Three of the above four performed to standard today.
