Top 16 things to look for Saturday........
16) How do Indiana kids react to Sampson taking $750,000 for a severence package? 22-4 Hoosiers head to Northwestern with new coach; they're 5-1 in last six games, winning five of six on Big 11 road, with wins by 3-14-5-4-6 pts. IU beat Northwestern 75-63 at home (-18). Wildcats are 0-4 as Big 11 home underdog. Six Indiana players skipped practice Friday, in protest of things
15) Cornell is 9-0 in Ivy, Brown 7-2, so win here will guarantee Big Red NCAA bid, barring total collapse; they won 75-64 at Brown, making 9-18 treys, holding Bruins to 33%. Brown won at Columbia last night; long trip from NYC to Ithaca on snowy night in NY. Seven of last eight Cornell wins are by 10+ points.
14) Missouri was down 10 at half in Boulder, rallied to win by 4 in first meeting; they're just 1-3 in last four games, 0-1 as home favorite- underdog is 4-1 vs spread in their Big 12 home games. Colorado is 4-1 vs spread as Big 12 road dog, but four of their last five losses are by 12+. Big 12 home favorites are 19-22.
13) Arizona lost four of last five games; they're 2-4 on road in Pac-10, 3-3 as road dog. Wildcats made 12-21 treys in 76-64 win vs Washington State in first meeting. Wazzu won last four in a row, allowing just 51.8 ppg; they're 4-2 as Pac-10 home favorite with all four home wins by 9+. Pac-10 home favorites are 25-23.
12) Kentucky won seven of last eight games, with one loss the 41-point beating at Vandy; UK is 5-0 at home in SEC, winning by 6-6-8-10-6 pts (2-0-1 as home favorite). Favorite covered six of last seven Arkansas games; Hogs are 2-3 on SEC road, 0-2 as road dog. SEC home favorites are 22-23 against the spread.
11) Oklahoma won its last three games, the last two in dramatic fashion; they lost 64-54 at home to Texas in first meeting, with Sooners shooting 33%, 6-24 from arc. Longhorns won last six games (5-1 vs spread); they're 3-1 as Big 12 home favorite, with home wins by 2-26-8-6-3-27. Home side is 8-3 vs spread in their conference games.
10) UCLA (-3.5) won 80-75 at Oregon in first meeting, they've won seven of last eight games, are 3-2-1 as Pac-10 home fave, with home wins by 14-7-33-22-35 pts, with loss to USC. Ducks lost seven of last ten games, are 2-5 as Pac-10 road dog, losing away games by 9-8-9-29-6 pts. They're 10 for last 38 from arc.
9) Miami won last three games by combined total of five points winning last two by point each; after beating Duke last game, they're 3-2 at home in ACC. Maryland is 5-0 vs spread on road in ACC, losing by point at Va Tech, by 12 at Duke, winning its other three. Terps covered six of last seven games overall.
8) Last home game for Washington club that won three of last four games, is 4-4 at home in Pac-10, 2-2 as home fave, beating UCLA, Arizona in last two at home- they won 71-61 at Arizona State in first meeting, holding ASU to 32%. Sun Devils are 2-7 in last nine games; they're 1-4 in last five tries as a road dog.
7) Kansas State lost last three road games; dogs covered four of their Big 12 road games- they benched Walker for last 9:38 in last game, we'll see how he reacts. Baylor is 1-6 in last seven games since 5-OT win at Texas A&M- they allowed 85.4 ppg in last seven games, but are 3-2 at home in conference games.
6) Creighton lost last four road games, scoring 55.8 ppg, but in non-league games, they're 8-1. Bluejays, Oral Roberts are both in top 65 in country in defense. ORU has 44 RPI playing in #22 conference (Missouri Valley is #8). Titans lost their first game in Summit League last week; they're 20-6 overall, including win at Oklahoma State.
5) Northridge is 10-2 in Big West, in first place, but are just 2-5 vs spread in last seven tries as favorite. Rider lost three games in row, allowing 80.3 ppg, after leading all three at half; they're 2-2 as MAAC dog, although they're 6-3 SU in MAAC games on road. Big West is rated 18th league, MAAC is rated 20th. Rider is in four-way tie for first place in MAAC.
4) Portland State won last nine games, has 3-game lead in Big West, but they lost game at Big West doormat Cal-Davis back in November, 76-68, Fullerton won seven of last eight games, is 4-2 as home favorite in league games- they scored 80+ points in each of last six games. This should be a high scoring game.
3) Siena lost last two games, in OT to Loyola, then going 7-19 from foul line in one-point loss at Manhattan; they're in 4-way tie for first in MAAC. Boise State won eight of last nine games, is 6-1 at home in WAC, losing only to New Mexico State- they average 82.8 ppg in WAC games- this should be a fast game.
2) Drake won first league title since '71 last week, then lost its next game at home to Bradley; they're 5-0-1 vs spread as a dog this season. Butler is 3-0 vs MVC teams; they've won nine in a row, are 11-0 out of conference, 6-5 as home favorite. By far, this is the best Bracket Buster game; both are in RPI top 20.
1) Tennessee hammered Memphis 76-58 in Knoxville LY; they won last eight games, are 2-1 as dog this year, beating Xavier, Gonzaga as dogs, losing to Texas. Memphis hasn't lost, with non-conference wins against Gonzaga, Arizona, Georgetown, USC, UConn and Oklahoma. How much will Volunteers press?
