12-7-05 Goaltender news

Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers - Lundqvist is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Blackhawks, reports the New York Post. Kevin Weekes has recovered from a knee injury and should be able to serve as the backup. Weekes is expected to play at least once on the Rangers' current three-game road trip.

Nikolai Khabibulin, Chicago Blackhawks - Khabibulin is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Rangers.

Marty Turco, Dallas Stars - Turco is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Panthers, reports the Dallas Morning News.

Andrew Raycroft, Boston Bruins - Raycroft is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Avalanche, reports the Boston Globe. Hannu Toivonen has been stealing all of Raycroft's starts lately, but coach Mike Sullivan confirmed that it will be Raycroft tonight.

Vitaly Kolesnik, Colorado Avalanche - Kolesnik is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Bruins. This is far from confirmed but please see the blurb below under David Aebischer.

Roberto Luongo, Florida Panthers - Luongo is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Stars.

Tomas Vokoun, Nashville Predators - Vokoun is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Capitals.

Olaf Kolzig, Washington Capitals - Kolzig is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Predators.

Martin Brodeur, New Jersey Devils - Brodeur is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Flames .

Miikka Kiprusoff, Calgary Flames - Kiprusoff is the probable starter for Wednesday's game against the Devils.

David Aebischer, Colorado Avalanche - The Avalanche goalie picture is a mess right so let's explain: Vitaly Kolesnik was recalled despite the fact that neither David Aebischer nor Peter Budaj is injured. Rumors out of Colorado indicate that the Avs are either intending on making a trade - possibly for Roberto Luongo of Florida, or they just want to mentally challenge Aebischer or Budaj. To that end, when coach Joel Quenneville was asked who was going to start tonight, he avoided answering the question by simply saying that the Avs would announce their goalie plans sometime today. In addition, he was quoted as saying "We're going to announce that (today) just to change things up. We're looking for the goaltending to be better" which could be interpreted as a number of things. The bottom line is that the Avs aren't happy with their goaltending picture and it's unknown which goalie will even start today. End result: Avoid.
