Cheyenne Social Club 18 :

Ever get the feeling your be watched ?

" Just because you do , doesnt mean your not ! "

As a matter of fact , I just had over a hundred pair of eys on me at 5.15 AM this morning . No its not porn , its puppies !

Noteworthy News Today :

I got back on the losing track yesterday and ran my record to a astonishing 1-10 ....... beat that if you can ?

Anybody Remember This ? :

O.J. Simpson, NFL Hall of Famer.

His lie: "I'll spend the rest of my days looking for Nicole's real killer."

His truth: "I'll spend the rest of my days golfing in Florida, dating withered porn-industry rejects and dodging payments I owe to the Goldman family."

The Fall of Korean Baseball :

Has the backlash against performance-enhancing substances finally gone too far?

Sadly, lamentably, Korean pitchers may no longer keep cabbage under their hats while on the mound. If we don't allow cabbage on the mound, then the terrorists have already won.

Reflections on a Game :

The number is sixteen , yes sixteen is what I remember . And speaking of numbers it was 1986 that day in my life that held so many numbers that I have trouble recalling them even now .

And another number that stands out is Game 6 of the 1986 National League Championship Series , and yet the number six appears again :

Mets - 7 / Houston - 6 , after 16 innings of bladder-busting baseball , I found myself sitting pretty for a change . After challenging the linesmakers at a hefty price , I had won on enemy turf no less and walked away with a feeling that money cant buy .

We all know by now that a dollar won , is much sweeter than any ever earned , and it goes without saying that we will fail more often than not at this endevor . But those fleeting moments of glory can change the world we live in , and it takes nothing but guts to capture that moment in time .

" Are You Ready ? "

Funny you should mention THAT game because I was there, about 10 rows behind the Mets dugout. Cheering on the "Stros at the Dome, they actually got behind 4-3 in the 11th (?) inning when Billy Hatcher hit a long foul ball into the upper deck. The collective groans where soon drowned out when he connected on the next pitch for a tying HR and continued the amazing marathon for 5 more innings. Probably the best game I ever saw.

Just to show my age, that Stros Game was the first playff game i ever watched on tv. Although I lost the Stros jersey i had as a kid, I git a new throwback a couple of years ago. Thinking about having Mike Scott's or Glenn Davis's name and number put on the back...

Ah, the memories. I still get chills when I see the replays of
that post-season. Can't remember what I ate for breakfast
today, but I remember the Mets being down 3-0 to Bob
Kepper in the last inning I think before tying it up. Then
Jesse Orosco finishing it off against Bill Doran. Was it Billy
Hatcher that hit a HR in extra innings to tie it up again at 6?

Then of course the season ending with the most famous
ground ball in the history of baseball. I can't think about the
play whenever I hear Vin Scully's voice even now. Even
though Mookie Wilson still swears, and I believe him, that
he would have beat out the play anyway.

Anyway, here's my funny story from that magical season.....
(It may be a little long)

As a tradition, my father always took my Little League
Manager and his son to a ballgame at the end of the season
as a thank you. We had tickets to the Mets vs the Cubs that
year on Sept. 17th. A meaningless game because the Mets
had such a huge lead at that point unless they were swept
in Philadelphia. Well, they were swept by the Phillies and
now I was going to Shea with a chance to see the Mets
clinch the division with Dwight Gooden on the mound.
Great seats, just behind 3rd base about 10 rows back.

Two young rookies, one a Met, one a Cub were signing
autographs right in front of me, but I was too stubborn to
go down and get one because I was only 11 years old and
they weren't even Stars!

The Met, making his first start ever had 3 hits that night
before being replaced for late inning defense. The Cub
rookie hit a HR that night. His 3rd of the season.

Trivia question......Who were the 2 players?
Hint: The Met was replaced by Keith Hernandez and the
Cub has gone to hit over 500 HR since. Why didn't I get
that autograph. (Sorry, I have no prizes to give.)

Anyway, I remember the whole stadium rushing the field
when the last ground ball was hit to Wally Backman at
2nd base. I had grass from left field in a bag in my room
for years afterward.

Good call. Thought the Dave Magadan one would only be
gotten by a Mets fan. Would you have got it without the
hints?

It was Jesse Orosco pitching to Kevin Bass with the bases loaded and the Muts clinging to a 7-6 lead. As the story goes, supposedly Keith Hernandez went to Orosco after Bass crushed two fastballs in a row just foul and told him if he throws one more fastball he would kill him. Orosco next pitxh was a slow changeup that Bass was miles in front of and the rest, as they say, is history.

That's absolutely right RD. I remember that story. It was
Marty Barrett that Orosco got to end the WS that year. I
just had the wrong 2nd baseman in the wrong series
there.

Yes I would have. Magadan was a "Future Star" and only got the oppurtunity to back up Hernandez because George Foster was out with an injury or retired or something correct? I am a bit of baseball junkie...

I hated that Mets Team. They were entertaining as hell, but I hated 'em, lol. Reading the books about that team, they seemed like the Bad News Bears on Coke lol...

Ticket #10462247
[908] ATL BRAVES -1½+180 ( G MADDUX -R / R COLON -R )MLB
[921] OAK AS -1½+125 ( D HAREN -R / J TOWERS -R )

Nothing like Extra Innings on a road team after they blow the 2 run lead in the 8th, then let the home team tie it in the 9th. I had to wait out a longass rain delay but it worth it.
that and 3 out of 4 earlier (damn that half run! in TX-Bos) made for my first good night in awhile. Still don't see 2 much for tomorrow. D'Backs look promising, but Carpenter has been lights out. Cubs maybe? Prior a good vaue, but do I want to bet against Smoltz? Is it a day for a Total, perhaps Chacon/Penny under 11 1/2? But 3 unders in a row in Colorado? Has that ever happened? If Cincy wins, San Fran might take it 2morrow...Is college football here yet?
