Currently reading a good book about poker called
"The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King"
about a team of professional poker players led by
Doyle Brunson who played a series of heads up
matches against a Texas Banker for millions of
dollars over the past 4 or 5 years. Really good book,
but anyway, I'm just starting a book discussion
thread to see if anybody has any favorites that I
may not have read yet.
I've also read many other books over the past
2 years or so including.....
"Positively 5th Street" about the 2000 WSOP
"Bringing Down the House" about the MIT BJ team
"The Man with the $100,000 Breasts" just some great
stories about the craziest bets ever made
"American Roulette" about a professional team of
casino cheaters
and even "Zen of Gambling" by everyone's favorite
Wayne Allen Root (Really not that horrible a read.)
I'm also currently reading, more like studying,
Doyle Brunson's Super System II, but that's more
of a strategy book. I also have Phil Gordon's book
which I like because of it's simplicity. I tried reading
Sklansky's "Theory of Poker", but my brain just kept
smoking everytime after about 3 pages.
Not so much a book, but James Caan's "The Gambler" has the greatest moment as he sits in the tub listening to Spencer Haywood make a prayer and Jerry West miss free throws. How many times has something like that happened to one of us? Or all 3 of his college bets are up big at half and they all lose outright in the second?
