Gambling Books

Currently reading a good book about poker called
"The Professor, the Banker, and the Suicide King"
about a team of professional poker players led by
Doyle Brunson who played a series of heads up
matches against a Texas Banker for millions of
dollars over the past 4 or 5 years. Really good book,
but anyway, I'm just starting a book discussion
thread to see if anybody has any favorites that I
may not have read yet.

I've also read many other books over the past
2 years or so including.....
"Positively 5th Street" about the 2000 WSOP
"Bringing Down the House" about the MIT BJ team
"The Man with the $100,000 Breasts" just some great
stories about the craziest bets ever made
"American Roulette" about a professional team of
casino cheaters
and even "Zen of Gambling" by everyone's favorite
Wayne Allen Root (Really not that horrible a read.)

I'm also currently reading, more like studying,
Doyle Brunson's Super System II, but that's more
of a strategy book. I also have Phil Gordon's book
which I like because of it's simplicity. I tried reading
Sklansky's "Theory of Poker", but my brain just kept
smoking everytime after about 3 pages.

Anybody else got any good ones?

Not so much a book, but James Caan's "The Gambler" has the greatest moment as he sits in the tub listening to Spencer Haywood make a prayer and Jerry West miss free throws. How many times has something like that happened to one of us? Or all 3 of his college bets are up big at half and they all lose outright in the second?

I'll be in Vegas this weekend.

I'm definitely going to be looking at any recommendations made here, when I'm at the Gamblers Book Shop on 11th Street, just off of Charleston.

Light - Just finished Gambling Wizards, conversations with the worlds greatest gamblers; a fun read with lots of wisdom.

Serious - Trading in the Zone, about the emotional/psychological traps that await every gambler, and how to avoid them.

Technical - Win More, Lose Less is one of the best books I've read on NFL wagering.

Favorite gambling movie? Probably the Good Thief with Nick Nolte.

Great books

Poker Nation is the best book. Andy Bellin is the author. His storytelling is amazing. Some guy named Emile represents him.

My Fav

You already hit my favorite, "Bringing Down the House". Loved this book.

As for helpful books, I enjoyed Phil Helmuth's book and have just started Doyle Brunson's Super System
