TORONTO | Left fielder Scott Podsednik left the Royals’ traveling party prior to Monday’s game against Toronto in order to attend to a family emergency in Kansas City.
Club officials did not reveal the nature of the emergency but indicated Podsednik is expected to rejoin the club in time for Tuesday night’s game against the Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.
Podsednik leads both leagues in batting at .457 with 21 hits in 46 at-bats. His seven stolen bases, prior to Monday’s games, were tied with three other players for the most in the majors.
The Royals adjusted their lineup by shifting Alberto Callaspo to Podsednik’s No. 2 spot in the order. Mitch Maier replaced Podsednik in left field.
