Heckuva coach

Haven't heard it yet, but he is already missed. Billies sure aren't playing defense the way he taught it. Valpo might get some tomorrow though.

I will never forget what he did for Ball State. Had he stayed and not went to Utah, I think he could have won a national championship there. Dick Hunsaker took his team the following year to final 8 and almost beat UNLV. Awesome coach who knew how to teach defense.

"He told stories of his players white water rafting and cliff jumping in the Ottawa River."

It really is my home town. lol!!!

It is called Calumet Island.

Wicked rapids!!!

There is on place called the "Garvin Chutes".

If you can raft them, you are good!!

Calumet Island held the world rafting championship way back when, but the Island is never mentioned. It is bar, in Ontario, that gets the credit.

When I was very young, I met a guy from France there. Not gay. LOL!!!!

Do not listen to Pointmagic too much. : )

We became great friends, and he taught me some wicked guitar moves. I would go on to party with him and his wife for many a year. I did not know know French, and he could not speak English.

Our connection was music.

The Garvin chutes, have a Whirlpool effect.

They can suck anything in.

You must drive down this crazy road to reach then.

The "Roche Fondeau". That is my best French!!! lol!!!

Unless you have four wheel drive, do not even go if it is raining. You will not get home.

It means split rock. All the rock is split and twisted. I used to fish there as a kid.

Marble Hill, is a mean drive. They called it that in French too.

This is the Ottawa connection!!!

It is called the Ottawa river. The name changes in French, but still the Ottawa. Indian name. Screw the separatists!!! They Frenched it, but the name is too long.

Too the whirlpool!!! LOL!!!

If you can surf, you are good!!!

They surf. I need surf music...

SWONE, I look for coaches like this in my life.

Very sad indeed.

Life coaches teach you a lot. I think he was one. And thanks to MSU, he introduced me to him. : )

Back to the whirlpool.

If he if he let his players even do that, he was good!!!

No, Van Halen was not there. I just need a good song!!!

The whirl pool has power.

We are fishing, because even the rock bass cannot handle it.

It sucks everything in. The Garvin Chutes.

We are pulling a lot out, they are small, but the taste is great!!!!

We might of smoked some refer. lol!!!

We see a gang of rafters arrive, and being polite and all, from Canada, we remove the fishing gear.

And we watch. The rapids were in a bad mood, lots of rain.

As expected, as we are watching the whirl pool, It is in an evil state. The water, it sucking everything in. Anything in, comes out about two minutes later. We used to throw sticks in it.

So we new the thing.

Rafters have life jackets...

The whirlpool sucked in a guy, with a life jacket.

He was not to live. The rafting company, had no idea what to do. The whirlpool was bouncing them in and out. They were not going to save him. The life jacket, one of the best, was not working.

We were a bit a stoned, but my friend who ate most of the fish, and weighed like 250, found some rope.

I was at the shore, right where it drops 50 feet. You just need to imagine walking four feet further.

I cannot swim!!! lol!!!

I throw him the rope, but I am afraid of water. lol!!!

Lots of bitching behind me, and I make the toss. I could not throw a football!!! ROFL!!!

I think I took three shots.

I managed to get him the rope, and crap my pants, it took him a bit to grab it.

It took all four of us, we were not weak, to pull him out. It is also called a chute. Garvin Chutes.

French thing.

We did pull him out. A strapping hulk. lol!!!

We look at him, and he looks at us. I have no idea where he was from. Toronto maybe.

We all start laughing and everybody hugs the guy!!! lol!!!

This guy was strong!!! Built like a Quarterback.

As we pulled him out, he was so weak. He recovered quickly, and we walked him to a safe point, so he could raft again. We loaded him in the raft, and told him of dangers ahead. But the Garvin was the biggest danger. His lucky day.

We built a fire, and had fresh fish. lol!!!

The story is real, even If I tried, I could not make it up.

They used rafting tubes. 12 people on board. When it tipped, most went down the river, in a flash!!!

I had a girl at the time. I knew where they dived. It is at least 500 feet high. I never tired. I could not swim!!! lol!!!

I would watch them though...
