North Carolina at Indiana: What bettors need to know
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
North Carolina Tar Heels at Indiana Hoosiers (-9.5)
Two of the nation’s premier programs will meet Tuesday night when top-ranked Indiana hosts No. 13 North Carolina in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Hoosiers feature a deep, talented roster that includes five players averaging double figures in scoring and three who led the team in scoring in each of the last three seasons. Cody Zeller, a 7-foot sophomore forward, leads Indiana in scoring (15.2) after averaging a team-high 15.6 last season. The Tar Heels have three players averaging in double figures and they've already been stung by a team from Indiana, losing to Butler at last week’s Maui Invitational.
TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN.
ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA (5-1): James Michael McAdoo has seen his minutes nearly double from last season and his scoring average nearly triple from 6.1 to 16.8 points, but his turnovers are also skyrocketing. The sophomore forward didn’t have more than three turnovers in any game last season, but he’s already had four or more in four of six games this season, including seven in the loss to Butler. The Tar Heels are also experiencing some growing pains with freshman point guard Marcus Paige, who has 20 assists and 19 turnovers while shooting 37.5 percent from the floor this season.
ABOUT INDIANA (6-0): With the emergence of Zeller the last two seasons, senior forward Christian Watford has seen his shot attempts gradually decline. Watford averaged a team-high 16 points two seasons back but fell to 12.6 last season and 13.2 so far this year. Watford, who's best remembered for hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer last season to knock off No. 1 Kentucky, is averaging 8.7 field-goal attempts, which would be a career low. He’s making his presence known in other areas, particularly rebounding, where he’s averaging a team-high eight a game.
TRENDS:
* Over is 4-1 in Hoosiers’ last five overall.
* Tar Heels are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
* Hoosiers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
* Under is 4-0 in Tar Heels’ last four vs. Big Ten foes.
TIP-INS:
1. Zeller’s older brother, Tyler, starred at North Carolina the previous four seasons and now plays in the NBA for the Cavaliers. His other brother, Luke, plays for the Phoenix Suns.
2. Indiana senior guard Jordan Hulls is eight 3-pointers away from moving into No. 2 all time on the Indiana career list.
3. Indiana will be without freshmen Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Peter Jurkin. Both were suspended for the first nine games for accepting benefits from a former AAU coach. The players lost an appeal last week that would have shortened the suspension to five games and made them available against the Tar Heels.

Top 5 Teams Collide Wednesday When Duke Hosts Ohio St.
Ohio State Buckeyes at Duke Blue Devils
College Basketball Betting Preview
Date: 11/28/2012 at 9:30 p.m. (ET)
Opening Lines: Duke -6½, O/U 144
Television: ESPN
Ohio State Buckeyes: A huge midweek clash on the college hoops schedule finds the No. 4 Buckeyes (4-0 straight-up, 2-1 against the spread) in Durham to battle No. 2 Duke. Ohio State won the recent Hall of Fame Tip-Off tourney by taking out Rhode Island and Washington, and followed that up with a 91-45 cakewalk past Missouri-KC last Friday as 28-point chalk. Deshaun Thomas leads the squad with 24 points per game, 6th-most in the country, and he also paces OSU on the glass with 7.3 rebounds per contest. The Buckeyes are ranked ninth in the country, connecting on over 52 percent from the field, and also lead the nation in 3-point shooting (47.8 percent). They have won their last four matchups in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and were ranked No. 2 last year when they beat then-No. 4 Duke in Columbus, 85-63.
Duke Blue Devils: This will be just the third home game for the Blue Devils (6-0 SU, 4-2 ATS), who have played one of the toughest schedules in the country so far. Duke won and covered all three of its contests in the Battle 4 Atlantis last week in the Bahamas to claim that title, hanging a 76-71 score on then-No. 2 Louisville in the championship tilt. That victory followed wins over Minnesota and VCU, and the Blue Devils also have a win and cover against Kentucky earlier this campaign. Only nine players have seen action so far for Duke, but five of them are scoring in double figures, led by Mason Plumlee's 19.7 points per game. The Blue Devils are among the nation's leaders in free-throw shooting (79.1 percent, 9th) and are averaging nearly 20 points per game from the charity stripe. Duke is 11-2 overall in this series between the conferences and a perfect 4-0 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

No. 13 Michigan State visits Miami on Wednesday
MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS (5-1)
at MIAMI (FL) HURRICANES (3-1)
Tip-off: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. ET
Line: Miami -1.5, Total: 127.5
Miami has a shot for an early-season signature win when its hosts No. 13 Michigan State as part of the ACC/Big Ten challenge on Wednesday night.
The veteran Hurricanes are finally getting their full lineup intact, as their two best players—PG Durand Scott and C Reggie Johnson—returned from suspension and injury, respectively in a solid 15-point home win over Detroit on Saturday. Tom Izzo has put his Spartans through a typically tough early-season slate, as they’ve already lost to Connecticut in Germany and beaten Kansas in Atlanta.
Can Miami hold off a tough non-conference foe? For the answer, connect to College Basketball Best Bets for all the Expert picks throughout the entire 2012-13 season. The StatFox experts have been on top of their game in the past five days, going a collective 22-16-1 ATS (58%) on college basketball Best Bets. The group is now 53% ATS (73-66-3) for the season, led by StatFox Gary at 58% ATS (15-11). StatFox Dave is at 54% ATS (29-25) for the season after going 61% ATS (20-13) since Nov. 17. StatFox Brian has gone 7-3-1 ATS (70%) in the past six days to even his season mark at 50% ATS (16-16-2).
With Scott and Johnson back in the lineup on Saturday, the Hurricanes cruised to a win over Detroit, one of the nation’s better mid-major teams. Scott scored 15 in his season debut, while Johnson came off the bench for seven points and nine rebounds in 27 minutes. Sophomore SG Shane Larkin carried the Canes offensively during Scott’s absence, averaging 17.3 PPG on 58.1% FG and 44.4% from three-point range.
With PF Draymond Green now in the NBA, the Spartans have shifted the focus of their team to the backcourt and PG Keith Appling. The junior is averaging 16.8 PPG while getting into the lane and to the free-throw line frequently (83.3% FT on 5.0 FTA per game). Appling has averaged 20.3 PPG over the Spartans’ past three games. Swingman Branden Dawson, returning from a torn ACL, has given them a major boost defensively. The Spartans are allowing just 58.8 PPG and 37.3% FG through their first six games. And they are getting efficient low-post play from C Derrick Nix and PF Adreian Payne, averaging a combined 15.8 PPG on 61.0% FG. It’s helped make up for poor shooting early on, as the Spartans are averaging just 4.0 threes per game on 27.9% 3-pt FG.
The status of freshman combo guard Gary Harris is a big factor tonight. He averaged 16.0 PPG over the first three games of the year, including 18 points in the Kansas win, before suffering a shoulder injury in the first minute of their win over Boise State last week. He’s missed the past two games, but is optimistic he’ll play against Miami.

Ohio State at Duke: What bettors need to know
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ohio State Buckeyes at Duke Blue Devils (-5, 144)
The premier matchup of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge takes place Wednesday when No. 4 Ohio State makes its first-ever visit to Cameron Indoor Stadium to play No. 2 Duke.
The Buckeyes have won all four of their games by double digits, most recently destroying UMKC 91-45 on Friday. The Blue Devils have played a much tougher schedule; their 6-0 start includes victories over then Top-3 teams Kentucky and Louisville. Duke will try to avenge last season’s 85-63 loss in Columbus, which dropped the Blue Devils to 11-2 in the Challenge. Ohio State is 5-5 in the event.
TV: 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
ABOUT NO. 4 OHIO STATE (4-0, 2-1 ATS): The Buckeyes lead the nation in 3-point shooting at 48 percent (32 of 67) and rank ninth in overall field-goal percentage (52.1). They’re also in the Top 10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (6th/+1.63) and fewest turnovers per game (5th/9.5). Junior F Deshaun Thomas averages 24 points and 7.3 rebounds, while junior PG Aaron Craft – last season’s Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year -- chips in 14.3 points and 5.3 assists. Junior G Lenzelle Smith, the third returning starter, averages 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds. All three have upper their scoring averages following the departures of Jared Sullinger and William Buford.
ABOUT DUKE NO. 2 (6-0, 4-2 ATS): Having just survived a stacked field to win the Battle 4 Atlantis, Duke has won 23 straight regular-season games. All five starters are averaging in double figures, led by 6-10 senior Mason Plumlee (19.7 points, 10 rebounds). Senior G Seth Curry is nursing a right shin injury, but that didn’t stop him from averaging a team-high 18 points in the Bahamas. He was scheduled to get a few days off leading into this game. Tourney MVP Quinn Cook averaged 13.7 points and 6.3 assists over the three games. The Blue Devils have hit 12 more 3-pointers than Ohio State, but shoot a significantly lower percentage (37.3).
TRENDS:
* Buckeyes are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Atlantic Coast.
* Blue Devils are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 home games.
* Over is 5-1 in Buckeyes' last six vs. Atlantic Coast.
* Over is 6-0 in Blue Devils' last six vs. Big Ten.
TIP-INS:
1. Ohio State is 7-15 all-time against No. 2-ranked teams. The Buckeyes are 147-231 all-time against ranked opponents.
2. Duke and Ohio State have split six all-time meetings.
3. Craft has 177 career steals, third on Ohio State’s all-time list behind David Lighty (191) and Jay Burson (204).

Kentucky-Notre Dame Opens SEC/Big East Challenge
Kentucky Wildcats at Notre Dame Fighting Irish
College Basketball Betting Preview
Date: 11/29/2012 at 7:00 p.m. (ET)
Opening Lines: Pick'em, O/U 134
Television: ESPN2
Kentucky Wildcats: Just like a year ago when the Wildcats (4-1 straight-up, 0-3 against the spread) were a solid fade early on, the defending national champs have gotten off to a slow start at the betting window again this season. Kentucky has not faced much competition since a loss to Duke on Nov. 13 and needed a 31-14 scoring edge at the free-throw line to get past Morehead State just before the Thanksgiving break, eventually winning 81-70 as a 23½-point favorite.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Coach Mike Brey and the Irish (6-1 SU, 1-3-1 ATS) have won four straight since their lone defeat to Saint Joseph's in overtime, but they are getting by with a very thin roster that has seen just six players perform in all seven games to this point. Senior Jack Cooley is averaging a double-double (14.3 points per game, 11.3 rebounds per game) for Notre Dame, but he could use some help from outside shooters Pat Connaughton and Cameron Biedscheid, who are a combined 22-of-66 (33 percent) from 3-point range.

Marquette Golden Eagles at Florida Gators
College Basketball Betting Preview
Date: 11/29/2012 at 9:00 p.m. (ET)
Opening Lines: Florida -10, O/U 136½
Television: ESPN2
Marquette Golden Eagles: The second SEC/Big East Challenge on Thursday's broadcast schedule finds Buzz Williams' squad (5-1 SU, 2-2 ATS) in Gainesville against the Gators. Marquette's lone loss came on a buzzer-beater to Butler in last week's Maui Invitational, and the Eagles bounced back with wins and covers over Mississippi State and USC to finish fifth in the tournament. All four of Marquette's lined games this season have gone "over" the total.
Florida Gators: Billy Donovan and the Gators (5-0 SU, 2-1 ATS) will enjoy their sixth consecutive home game before heading out on the road to face Florida State and Arizona. In the Gators' biggest test so far, they destroyed Wisconsin on Nov. 14 by a 74-56 count to easily cover the 6-point spread. Florida ranks second in the country, allowing just 48.4 points per game, and has limited opponents to 33.7 percent shooting from the field (9th).

Notre Dame host No. 8 Kentucky on Thursday
KENTUCKY WILDCATS (4-1)
at NOTRE DAME FIGHTING IRISH (6-1)
Tip-off: Thursday, 7:00 p.m. ET
Line: Notre Dame -1.5, Total: 134
Notre Dame looks to continue its dominance at home when it hosts No. 8 Kentucky on Thursday night in the SEC/Big East Challenge.
The Irish have been nearly unbeatable at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center, where they’re on a 40-1 SU run and 105-7 SU (94%) since the 2006-07 season. And this will be the first true road game for the new-look Wildcats, who continue to rely on a freshman class that’s much more raw than last year’s national championship group.
Can the young Wildcats get the job done on the road? For the answer, connect to College Basketball Best Bets for all the Expert picks throughout the entire 2012-13 season. The StatFox experts are a collective 52% ATS (75-70-3) in college basketball Best Bets for the season, led by StatFox Gary, who is 5-2 ATS in the past five days and 59% ATS (16-11) for the season. StatFox Dave is at 54% ATS (30-26) for the season after going 60% ATS (21-14) since Nov. 17. StatFox Brian has gone 7-5-1 ATS (58%) in the past seven days.
Notre Dame has succeeded at home of late mostly because it shoots the rock much better in its own building. The Irish have shot 49% FG and 40% 3-pt FG at home over the past two seasons, as opposed to 39% FG and 28% 3-pt FG in road/neutral court games. Their strength this year has been in the frontcourt, where PF Jack Cooley is averaging 14.3 PPG on 63% FG and 11.3 RPG, and C Garrick Sherman is averaging 11.0 PPG on 63% FG. Their backcourt of Jerian Grant (13.0 PPG, 4.7 APG) and Eric Atkins (10.3 PPG, 6.7 APG) has played very well of late, averaging a combined 28.3 PPG on 53% FG and 52% threes over their past four games.
Kentucky is going through some early-season growing pains as it breaks in an entirely new team. But the Wildcats are making strides. They played well in their only loss of the year, to now-No. 2 Duke, keeping pace with them in almost every statistical category in a 75-68 neutral court loss. While starting PG Ryan Harrow has been out for personal reasons (he could return Thursday though), SG Archie Goodwin (19.0 PPG on 53% FG) has initiated the offense and played very well of late. He’s averaged 25.0 PPG on 59% FG, 7.5 RPG and 6.5 APG over two games last week. PF Alex Poythress (18.4 PPG on 68% FG) has also emerged as a consistent scoring threat, topping 20 points in each of his past four games. C Nerlens Noel will have to anchor the team defensively against Cooley. He’s lived up to his reputation as an elite defender, averaging 3.6 BPG to go along with 12.4 PPG and 8.6 RPG.

What bettors need to know: Kentucky at Notre Dame
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KENTUCKY at NOTRE DAME
Kentucky has had a chance to fix several of the things that went wrong in its loss to Duke earlier this month, starting with an offense that struggled to push the pace. The eighth-ranked Wildcats have averaged 95.3 points in three straight wins since that loss to the Blue Devils, and have gone over the century mark twice. They will test that explosive offense against a higher caliber of competition when they visit Notre Dame on Thursday.
Unlike freshman-dominated Kentucky, the Fighting Irish rely heavily on upperclassmen and returned all five starters from a team that won 22 games last season. That experience and familiarity has helped Notre Dame execute in the half court and on the defensive end en route to four straight wins. The Wildcats will try to get out and run, using their superior athleticism to make up the difference in experience. Their big challenge will be stopping Irish forward Jack Cooley, who is averaging a double-double while shooting over 60 percent from the field.
TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN2.
LINE: The early overnight line has Kentucky as a 1-point road favorite and the total was recommended at 135.
ABOUT KENTUCKY (4-1): The SEC/Big East Challenge will provide the Wildcats with a better approximation of their growth than wins over Louisiana-Lafayette, Morehead State and Long Island University-Brooklyn. Kentucky rebuilt over the summer with a strong recruiting class and has watched those players come together over the last three games. Guard Archie Goodwin came within one rebound and one assist of a triple-double in the 104-75 win over LIU-Brooklyn on Friday while Alex Poythress has gone for 20 or more in four straight games. Nerlens Noel continues to fill up the box score in much the same way that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist did for last season’s national championship squad.
ABOUT NOTRE DAME (6-1): The Irish suffered an overtime loss to St. Joe’s during the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic earlier this month but have recovered nicely, especially on the defensive end. Notre Dame is allowing just 58.3 points during its four-game winning streak. Six players scored in double figures in Monday’s 92-65 win over Chicago State, led by Jerian Grant’s 22 points and 10 assists. The Irish are so balanced offensively that Cooley only had four field goal attempts (making all four) in the win. That efficiency is made possible by the backcourt duo of Grant and Eric Atkins, who have a combined assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.08.
TIP-INS
1. Kentucky G Ryan Harrow (illness) has not played since the opener but returned to practice this week.
2. The Wildcats beat Notre Dame 72-58 in Louisville in the last meeting on Dec. 8, 2010.
3. The Fighting Irish are averaging 19 assists as a team.
