From: Sports Reporter---OREGON STATE, 29-23.
Normally, we’re not going to like a team that didn’t have bowl practices
last season when it leaves the gate against a program that had the
‘benefit’ of those extra December drills. However, this match-up pits
a Pac 12 underdog against a Mountain West favorite, and the roles
are counterintuitive to the overall dominance that Pac 12 squads have
had in games against Mountain West opponents. Pac 12 sides are
49-17 SU vs. Mountain West foes since 2010. This particular Mountain
West foe lost its bowl game last season 61-50 as the -13 favorite
to a Sun Belt program that hadn’t been to a bowl game since 2009.
The CSU Rams are, by our count, 3-11 SU vs. Pac 10 or Pac 12 foes
since the turn of this century. Two of the three wins were against hated
intra-state rival Colorado, who they play this coming Friday. Ah, a lookahead
spot, eh? Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen has a group
that went 2-10 in 2015, 4-8 in 2016, and says that depth has been built
at the pace he hoped it would. CSU’s run defense allowed 210 rushing
yards per game last season against twelve unranked foes, so it’ll probably
be a good afternoon to be Oregon State RB Ryan Nall, aiming his
6’2”, 239 frame at that inviting front seven and bowling through it into
the secondary
