Another 35-goal season for Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin’s goal, his 35th of the season, gave the Capitals a 1-0 lead in their win over the Sabres on Monday night. It was the tenth time in his career that Ovechkin scored 35 goals in a season, all with the Capitals. Only five other players in NHL history had ten or more seasons with at least 35 goals for one team: Bobby Hull (11 35+ goal seasons for the Blackhawks), Mario Lemieux (11, Penguins), Luc Robitaille (11, Kings), Marcel Dionne (11, Kings), and Mike Bossy (10, Islanders).

Ovechkin has scored 28 goals against the Sabres in his NHL career, tying him with Peter Bondra for the most for any Capitals player against Buffalo.

Ninth OT goal for Marchand

Brad Marchand’s goal 3:36 into overtime gave the Bruins a 2-1 win over the Flames in Calgary. It was the ninth overtime goal of Marchand’s career, all coming in the last five seasons. Only two players have scored more overtime goals than Marchand since the start of the 2013-14 season: Alex Ovechkin (10) and Sean Monahan (10).

Marchand has scored six goals in six career games played in Calgary with two of the goals counting as game-winners

Zucker leads Wild to victory

Jason Zucker gave the Wild a 3-2 lead over the Islanders with a goal midway through the second period and sealed the victory with a goal late in the third period for Minnesota in its matinee game in Brooklyn. Zucker has scored 10 goals in his last 15 games dating back to Jan. 13. The only players who have scored more goals than Zucker since that date are Evgeni Malkin (16), Connor McDavid (11) and Patrice Bergeron (11).

Multi-goal game for Arvidsson

Viktor Arvidsson scored two goals, his 19th and 20th of the season, in the Predators’ win over the Senators. It was the first multiple-goal game of the season for Arvidsson. Entering today’s NHL action, only two players had scored more goals than Arvidsson without scoring more than one goal in any game: Jonathan Marchessault of the Knights (21 goals entering Monday) and Micheal Ferland of the Flames (20).

Quick thriving at the United Center

Jonathan Quick stopped 27 of 28 shots on goal in the Kings’ win over the Blackhawks in Chicago on Monday night. Quick improved to 3-0 with a 0.67 goals-against average, .976 save percentage and one shutout over his last three starts at the United Center and did not allow more than one goal in any of those three starts. Only one visiting goaltender over the last ten years won three straight starts and allowed no more than one goal in each at the United Center. Semyon Varlamov had a streak like that for the Avalanche in 2015.
