Bank shots: NBA betting news and notes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the week of March 3-March 9.
Hottest ATS
Denver Nuggets (4-0 SU, 4-0 ATS)
Denver continues to be a great bet (39-24-1 ATS) as well as a profitable over play (38-26 O/U). The Nuggets have won eight straight games, covering in seven of those contests. Denver visits Phoenix Monday before returning to Pepsi Center for two tough games against the Knicks and Grizzlies.
Coldest ATS
Charlotte Bobcats (0-4 SU, 0-4 ATS)
Charlotte has dropped 10 straight games straight up and ATS, making it great fade material. The Bobcats host the Celtics Tuesday before heading to Toronto for a clash with the Raptors.
Best over play
Orlando Magic (1-3 SU, 3-1 over/under)
The Magic stayed true to their form as a good over play this past week. Orlando has played over the number in six of its last eight to improve its season O/U mark to a very profitable 34-25-4 for its over bettors. The Magic host Philadelphia and Los Angeles (Lakers) early this week before embarking on a four-game road trip.
Best under play
Minnesota Timberwolves (1-2 SU, 0-3 over/under)
The Timberwolves are devastated by injuries and had only nine healthy players on their roster this past week. Star F Kevin Love (hand) is targeting a mid-March return, but the T-Wolves could continue to struggle to score until he's healthy. Minnesota is averaging just 85.3 points per game over its last three games, nearly 10 points lower than its season average (94.7). The Timberwolves host Dallas Sunday and then San Antonio rolls into Minny on Tuesday.
Scouting the schedule:
-The Brooklyn Nets play nine of their next 11 games away from the Barclays Center. The Nets have been a good under play away from home, posting a 10-18-1 O/U mark.
-The Houston Rockets begin a season-long seven-game homestand Wednesday when the Phoenix Suns visit. The Rockets are 18-11 O/U at the Toyota Center.

Fullcourt press: Monday's NBA betting news and notes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brooklyn Nets at Philadelphia 76ers (+5.5, 184.5)
The Sixers have seen their postseason hopes vanish after losing five straight and 12 of their last 13 games. Coach Doug Collins has experimented with his lineup over the last two games and given rare starts to guards Charles Jenkins and Damien Wilkins. The Nets have won three straight to move 2 1/2 games out of second place in the East. Brooklyn has held its last seven opponents under 100 points and limited the Hawks to just 14 second-quarter points on Saturday. The road team is 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings.
Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs (-2.5, 208.5)
The Thunder ran their winning streak to five with a 91-79 win over Boston on Sunday, pulling to within one game of the idle Spurs. The Spurs were streaking as well as this much-anticipated matchup approached, but they laid an egg Friday against Portland. The 136-106 setback was the second-worst ever for San Antonio at home and the 136 points were the most all-time by a Spurs opponent at the AT&T Center. The Spurs have won the last five matchups with the Thunder at home, but Oklahoma City is 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
Detroit Pistons at Utah Jazz (-9.5, 196)
Utah went 0-4 on its road trip to fall a half-game behind the surging Los Angeles Lakers for eighth place in the West. Utah's first three losses on the road trip were by a combined five points before it was blown out in New York on Saturday to fall to 1-7 in its last eight games. The Jazz have won 13 of the last 14 meetings with the Pistons and beaten them nine consecutive times in Salt Lake City. Detroit has dropped 14 straight road games to Western Conference opponents and is 1-5 ATS in its last six vs. Western foes.
Denver Nuggets at Phoenix Suns (+8.5, 209.5)
The Nuggets have ripped off eight straight victories to inch closer to the Los Angeles Clippers and Memphis Grizzlies in the battle for the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference. Denver, which won nine straight from Jan. 20-Feb. 9, had taken six consecutive meetings against the Suns before falling 110-100 in Phoenix on Nov. 12. The Nuggets have averaged 116.9 points in the last seven meetings with Phoenix and the over is 10-2 in their last 12 vs. Pacific opponents.
New York Knicks at Golden State Warriors (-3, 202.5)
The Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks could be without their two biggest stars when they meet in Oakland on Monday. Carmelo Anthony has missed the Knicks’ past three games with a sore and stiff right knee, and he’s listed as questionable as New York opens a five-game road trip against Western Conference opponents. All-Star forward David Lee missed the Warriors’ 103-93 loss to Milwaukee on Saturday, but he hopes to return against the Knicks. Golden State has won 15 of the last 20 meetings with New York and nine of the last 10 meetings in Oakland. The Knicks are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.

For the week of March 3-March 9.
Hottest ATS

Thunder at Spurs: What bettors need to know
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Oklahoma City Thunder at San Antonio Spurs (-2.5, 208)
The battle for the top spot in the Western Conference takes center stage Monday night when streaking Oklahoma City invades San Antonio. The Thunder ran their winning streak to five with a 91-79 win over Boston on Sunday, pulling to within one game of the idle Spurs. Kevin Durant had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Oklahoma City improved to 28-4 at home. The Thunder won despite producing their lowest scoring output in nearly two months.
The Spurs were streaking as well as this much-anticipated matchup approached, but they laid an egg Friday against Portland. The 136-106 setback was the second-worst ever for San Antonio at home and the 136 points were the most all-time by a Spurs opponent at the AT&T Center. It was San Antonio's first loss in three games since losing All-Star point guard Tony Parker to an ankle injury. Five players scored in double figures but the Trail Blazers, unlike the Celtics against Oklahoma City, had no problem putting the ball in the basket, shooting 61.6 percent from the floor.
TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports Oklahoma (Oklahoma City), Fox Sports Southwest (San Antonio), NBATV
ABOUT THE THUNDER (47-16): The league's top offense was limited Sunday but more than made up for it by clamping down on the other end. Oklahoma City held Boston to 25 percent shooting in the second half and without a field goal for nearly six minutes at one point down the stretch. The Thunder also forced 19 turnovers, which led to 19 points. Russell Westbrook chipped in 15 points but had a season-low two assists in the win. Serge Ibaka, who had seven points and seven rebounds, recorded 25 points and a season high-tying 17 rebounds in a 107-93 victory over the Spurs at home on Dec. 17.
ABOUT THE SPURS (48-15): San Antonio is 3-1 thus far on its five-game homestand. They won the first three by an average of 31.7 points before suffering the 30-point loss to Portland. Overall, the Spurs are 4-3 after a 16-1 stretch that had vaulted them past the Thunder. The embarrassing setback on Friday may serve as a wake-up call. "Obviously, we'll try and learn from it. There will be a bunch of film session involved with this one," said PF Tim Duncan, who led San Antonio with 18 points and eight boards.
TRENDS:
* Thunder are 5-1 ATS in their last six Monday games.
* Spurs are 5-1 ATS in their last six games vs. a team with a winning record.
* Thunder are 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
* Under is 9-1 in Spurs’ last 10 games playing on two days of rest.
BUZZER BEATERS:
1. Parker hit a buzzer-beater to give San Antonio an 86-84 win in the first meeting between the teams Nov. 1.
2. The Spurs have won the last five matchups with the Thunder at home.
3. The finale of the four-game season series is April 4 in Oklahoma City.

Tracking NBA season win totals at the three-quarter mark
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most NBA teams have played between 60 and 64 games, marking the unofficial three-quarter mark of the season.
Way back in October bettors placed their season win total wagers, so let’s check in and have a look at some teams that are approaching their established totals and a few that don’t have a prayer of meeting bettors’ expectations.
Three teams that have exceeded or are close to reaching their season win totals
Houston Rockets
Season win total: 32
Current wins: 34
Games left: 18
James Harden has been the difference, much to the delight of bettors that wagered on Houston to win more than 32 games.
Golden State Warriors
Season win total: 36.5
Current wins: 35
Games left: 18
It would take an epic collapse for the Warriors not to pay off those who took the over.
Portland Trail Blazers
Season win total: 34
Current wins: 29
Games left: 21
The Blazers are currently a sub-.500 team, but not at the Rose Garden where they boast an impressive 20-10 record.
Three teams that should exceed their season win totals
Brooklyn Nets
Season win total: 45.5
Current wins: 37
Games left: 19
Deron Williams and Joe Johnson would both have to fall to season-ending injuries in order for the Nets not to win 46 games.
Los Angeles Clippers
Season win total: 50
Current wins: 44
Games left: 18
The Clippers didn’t lose a game in the month of December, much to the delight of bettors that predicted they would eclipse the 50-win mark.
San Antonio Spurs
Season win total: 56.5
Current wins: 48
Games left: 19
This team finds a way to win even when All-Stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker aren’t in the lineup.
Three teams that don’t have a prayer of reaching their season win totals
Los Angeles Lakers
Season win total: 56.5
Current wins: 32
Games left: 19
The Lakers are improving as the season progresses, but it's mathematically impossible for them to meet the expectations of oddsmakers this season.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Season win total: 41
Current wins: 21
Games left: 23
The chances of this team being .500 were shot down when star forward Kevin Love fell to injury.
Philadelphia 76ers
Season win total: 46.5
Current wins: 23
Games left: 21
The Sixers have only one win in their last 12 games. Hopefully you took the under.
All odds courtesy of the LVH.
All stats prior to action Sunday.

Tuesday Tips
March 12, 2013
In spite of Championship Week in college hoops taking center-stage, the NBA showcases eight contests on the Tuesday card. The Grizzlies and Blazers wrap up the night in Portland, while the surging Bucks host the Mavericks. We'll begin in Orlando with one of its franchise legends returning to the Magic Kingdom.
Lakers at Magic - 7:05 PM EST
The much-anticipated return of Dwight Howard to Central Florida comes on Tuesday night as the Lakers go for their 17th win in the last 23 games. Los Angeles is fighting it out with Utah for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference with 18 games remaining for each club. The Lakers are playing better away from Staples Center recently with six wins in the last 10 road contests, including a 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record in the favorite role. The Magic isn't ready to pack in their season despite a 4-22 mark the previous 26 games, as Orlando has cashed in four of the last six contests. Orlando is actually going for the season sweep of Los Angeles, as the Magic upended the Lakers at Staples, 113-103 in early December as heavy 13-point underdogs.
Celtics at Bobcats - 7:05 PM EST
How horrible has Charlotte been recently? Not only did the Bobcats become the first team to 50 losses in the league this season, but Charlotte has failed to win and cover 10 straight games. In fact, the last team the Bobcats defeated was the Celtics back on February 11 as short home 'dogs, 94-91. Boston's five-game winning streak came to a halt at Oklahoma City, 91-79 on Sunday, just the fifth defeat in the last 19 games. Since a 2-7 ATS start as a road favorite, the C's have won and covered each of their last two times in this situation at Phoenix and Philadelphia. This is the fourth straight game in which the Bobcats are listed as a double-digit home underdog, as Charlotte has lost each of the previous four contests at Time Warner Cable Arena by at least 14 points.
Wizards at Cavaliers - 7:05 PM EST
Both these teams are going nowhere, but Cleveland's fall will be faster as star point guard Kyrie Irving is sidelined for 3-4 weeks with a shoulder injury. The Cavs have dropped four of their last five games, while Cleveland cashed as six-point road 'dogs in Sunday's 100-96 defeat at Toronto. The Wizards covered for the first time in six tries as Washington destroyed hapless Charlotte in Saturday's 104-87 rout as 10 ½-point home 'chalk.' Washington owns a 1-3 SU/ATS record the previous four road contests, while cashing the 'under' in 11 straight games away from the Verizon Center.
Hawks at Heat - 7:35 PM EST
Miami puts its franchise-record 18-game winning streak on the line before hitting the road for a five-game swing on Wednesday. The Heat hosts the Hawks, who Miami has beaten three times already this season, while limiting Atlanta to 92 points or less in each victory. Atlanta is going backwards at the moment with losses in five of its last six contests, including four straight defeats away from Philips Arena. Miami has cashed in just three of the previous eight games, but four of those ATS defeats came as double-digit favorites. Since a four-game winning streak, Atlanta has scored 88 points or less in three of the last six trips to the court, including double-digit defeats to Brooklyn and Denver.
Hornets at Nets - 7:35 PM EST
Brooklyn continues to move up the Eastern Conference playoff standings following three consecutive wins, but the Nets were tripped up at Philadelphia last night as road favorites. The Nets held all three opponents to 80 points or less during that hot streak, while cashing the 'under' in four straight games at the Barclays Center. The Hornets snapped a three-game skid by beating the Blazers late, 98-96 as 3 ½-point home 'dogs on Sunday. New Orleans owns a 2-7 SU and 4-5 ATS record the last nine games off a victory, while looking to avenge a 101-97 home loss to the Nets on February 26.
Mavericks at Bucks - 8:05 PM EST
Milwaukee is creeping closer and closer to solidifying the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference after winning five of the last six games. The Bucks grabbed two of three on their California road swing following outright underdog victories at Golden State and Sacramento. The Mavs head to Milwaukee off three consecutive wins, including Sunday's rout at Minnesota as seven-point favorites. Dallas was tripped up the last time these teams met at the American Airlines Center in late February, 95-90 as Milwaukee cashed outright as 5 ½-point 'dogs.
Spurs at Wolves - 8:05 PM EST
San Antonio travels to Minnesota with no rest following last night's blowout of Oklahoma City. The Spurs go for their third win and cover against the Wolves this season, while grabbing the first two meetings by at least 10 points. The Southwest Division leaders hit the road for the first time since the 7-2 Rodeo trip during February, but the Spurs posted a 3-4 ATS record in the role of a favorite. Minnesota has dropped eight of its past nine games, while losing each of its last two contests to Denver and Dallas by 23 points each. The Wolves have hit the 'under' in seven straight contests at the Target Center, as Minnesota has failed to bust the 100-point mark in this stretch at home.
Grizzlies at Blazers - 10:05 PM EST
Portland has covered twice against Memphis this season at FedEx Forum, including as 7 ½-point 'dogs last Wednesday in a 91-86 setback. Former Blazer Zach Randolph missed that victory with an ankle injury, but the All-Star forward is expected to return to the Grizzlies' lineup after missing four games. The Blazers return to the Rose Garden after covering seven of their last eight, including four straight in the underdog role. Next to Miami, Memphis is the second-hottest team in the league by running off a 12-1 mark the last 13 trips to the court, while putting together a 9-4 ATS ledger in this stretch.
