NEW ANGLE for 2007 NBA Open - Feedback?

There has been much talk about the new NBA ball that will be used - reportedly slippier than before when wet (sweat, etc). The players hate it.

This could cause more turnovers, worse shooting and more caution with the ball overall. I say this translates into an early and big advantage to the UNDER plays overall.

Opinions from the NBA Forum experts?

Scoring is up this preseason with the new ball about 8 points more a game over last preseason.

My opinion- new ball- old ball won't matter either way, it is still a ball the same size shape and weight

its only a few players who feel that way about the ball. tests show it is even better then the leather when wet.

Contrary to Shaq, Kobe loves the new ball.

I hear everyone talking about unders because of it.

Saw This on Fox News Today

Marc Cuban hired a UT-Arlington physicist to run the ball through a series of tests and the physicist confirmed what Shaq has complained about.

1. While the ball does grip better when dry, it gets slicker when wet. The leather balls became less slippery when wet.

2. The new ball does not bounce as high.

He also discovered that the new balls bounce inconsistantly, and recommends they descrease the size of the logo embossing.

The one advantage he found to the new ball is that its weight stays consistant after it becomes wet. The leather balls became heavier at the end of the games due to absorbtion of moisture.
