11/20 CBB OVC Play
Southern Illinois-Carbondale at SIU Edwardsville (+1)
It's the battle of sister schools tonight as SIU plays in Edwardsville for the first time in 25 years. SIUC is 2-0 this year and has some fairly gaudy stats -- but there is a big asterisk to those numbers. This program has blown in recent years, and coach Barry Hinson all but admitted he was trying to pad the win total for the seniors with a very soft non-conference schedule. So far they've beaten New Orleans, who was thinking about becoming a D2 school, and an NAIA school. Even against those two cupcakes, SIUC still turned it over a combined 37 times.
SIUE is in their first full year of D1 play after making the transition. They are a team that has been slowly on the rise in recent years. They played well at Mizzou to open the year before losing by 14, and then handled Western Illinois at home.
SIUE has good depth, as they've got nine guys playing more than 14 minutes a game. I expect the Cougars to wear down the Salukis in front of a rabid home crowd. SIUE has always been the little brother to SIUC, and this is their chance to kick the Dogs while they're down. I like the Cougars to win handily tonight.
Good luck to everybody tonight.
