How to Start Your Own Community Line Service and Compete with Northcoast
Have you ever thought about starting your own service or in this case trying to assemble group of handicappers under one roof, letting them sell their picks under your name and then receiving a nice piece of the action for every sale?
If you have, then here are some suggestions as to how you can start your own business-some of the suggestions are taken right from the NC Playbook while others would improve upon them.
Anyways, here they are in no special order:
1) Contact as many sports services as you can to try to get them to join-as is the case with NC, this should include folks who need exposure and who are unable to sell the picks on their own.
Some of these folks should be over-the-hill losers and/or folks who never were any good to begin with.
Using the example of Northcoast, some of these include Jim Feist, Great Lake Sports and MTI.
You might even entertaining raiding NC of some of its cappers by making the incentives and kick backs juicier than what they offer.
In all I would suggest around 20 cappers, roughly the same as NC-I say that because the more cappers you have, the more folks your potential clientele will have an opporunity from whom to purchase plays.
Also, it will give your comp. men more opportunties to find a capper or two who has been winning in the short term to brag about their record on the comp. phone.
2) You will need to have a comp. line and for its phone number to be well known and a household name for obvious reasons, and also to promote it in such a way that many call every day.
3) To get people to call the comp. line so that they will hopefully will purchase plays from one of the cappers on it, you will have to have clever, skilled and convincing folks manning the different extensions.
These folks must not only be convincing but they must also know how to effectively lie/spin/omit/use favorable time frames, deceive, etc(like NC). in recounting the records of these guys so that folks calling will always have a good impression of the cappers no matter how bad they have been doing(and also of course hope that guys like me don't come around to expose them. lol).
Here is where you must be a bit more selective than Northcoast.
The guys who do their comp. lines, Ralphie and Brandon, are both awful and horrible, have irritating voices and are not convincing at all-you must get some folks with some listener friendly voices to do the comps.
4) In order to try to be effective and convincing, you must have rules about big plays-only one five star a month(rating games from 1-5 stars is very fair and sounds better as opposed to the assholes who have billion star locks, etc.) and only one GOY in any sport.
However, you must tell the services that you the owner have the right and/or will dictate as NC when the big plays/GOY'S will be given out or at least in a certain time frame-the last thing you want is for say in the NCAA Tournament for all of the services to give out their allowed big plays early in the tournament so there is no one left to entice folks with scripted big plays later in the tournament.
Also, you as the owner of the service must tell the services that you have the right to overrule one of these big plays being given if it is opposite another big play-you certainly don't want your cappers to be on opposite sides of a GOY or 5* as that would make you look bad.
5) You must have specials but ones which aren't really specials and word them cleverly so as not to get caught or again hope savage1 doesn't expose you.
A prime example is NC's clever ability to offer added dollars on their debit card for some or all of the sports services but at the same time sneakily raising the price of the services in question meaning you have essentially received no discount at all.
Anyways, those are some of the things which come to mind for now-feel free to add to the list if you so desire and most importantly, I wish you BAD luck if you take my suggestions. lol
