Monday Night Preseason Football
5unit Houston 'OVER' 38
7-3 'OVER' with those NFC/AFC matchups this week. The seven 'OVERS' all have produced 44 or more points. That's high by preseason standards. We have another one tonight with Minnesota at Houston. Plus we have yet another QB returning to his former home. Sage Rosenfels was the back-up QB at Houston and figures to be the #2 man behind Brett Favre tonight after missing last week's game against Kansas City when Tavaris Jackson threw for 202 yards on just 12 completions. Rosenfels better be up for the challenge tonight after that kind of performance from Minnesota's 2008 starting QB.
The bottom line is the Texans have never been that good defensively. What makes last week's 38-14 loss to the Saints really bad is the fact Reggie Bush didn't even play. His back-up, Mike Bell, had 100 yards on the ground and was part of the 173 rushing yards. Adrian Peterson has to be licking his chops! The Saints had 420 total yards of offense despite Drew Brees playing only a quarter & a 1/2. Maybe we didn't get a true read on the Houston defense in week #1 when they held offensively-challenged……lol (Kansas City) to 10 points in the rain at there home. One thing I really like is the protection Minnesota quarterbacks are receiving. They are THE ONLY TEAM in the NFL preseason not to allow a sack. Minnesota has decent receivers which leads to many points for Rosenfels & Jackson which are fighting for the #2 spot. Schaub was 7-of-7 in week #1 at Kansas City and 11-of-16 last week versus the Saints. Dan Orlovsky has had a great preseason as the #2 guy behind Schaub with 257 passing yards in two weeks and has made Rex Grossman a non-factor. If Minnesota has a weakness, it is certainly in their secondary. That unit hasn't really been tested this month considering they faced Kansas City with Cassel (now injured 2-4 weeks) and prior to that Indianapolis with Manning attempting two passes before leaving in week #1 with 5:44 to go in the first quarter. Following Manning, the Colts did not have longtime back-up Jim Sorgi, who was out with injury.
Schaub will test the Minnesota defense tonight. It is also a grass surface at Reliant Stadium, which will slow down the Vikings pass rush. Minnesota played on artificial surfaces the past two weeks at Indy and at home. Meanwhile Houston will have two holes in their defense tonight. Cornerback Dunta Robinson, contract problems, will miss his 3rd straight game along with Linebacker Brian Cushing, the #1 pick out of USC, is also out. Part of the reason we used the Texans 'OVER' against New Orleans was because Houston was without both starting corners. Houston is a great 'OVER' team in the preseason. The last three years the Texans are 8-2 'OVER' in August. FYI: Before their 13-3 decision at Indianapolis in week #1, the Vikings were 3-0 'OVER' on the preseason road the previous two years. Bottom line: I'm surprised to catch a total in the 30's tonight after Houston's last game produced 52 points. Favre usually makes something happen on Monday Night Football, good or bad.

Another good writeup, Deuce!
Nice winner last night.
All things being equal, when in doubt, take the underdog.
