So I put a little cash down on the 17th to test out my math and have some fun on the Spring Training games, playing around with different money management systems.
Since then, I'm 31-14. Hitting games at a .689 clip. Spring games seem to have fantastic odds, if you're willing to check out MLB.com's team pages in the morning to see who's pitching. I'm almost sad that the regular season is starting soon.
Do you guys play Spring games? Are they notoriously this easy to call, with friendly odds? (I got Johan Santana today at -130 against the Jays. They lost, but that's still an incredible discount)
3-4 Yesterday. Only my third down day out of 10 since I started charting this stuff, so not too bad. Granted, it ended up being awful since Daisuke threw 5 no-hit innings and the Red Sox still lost. Took a big hit there.
Today, there are 10 plays:
CLE +110
FLA +115
STL -130
BOS -160
TB +140
ANA -135
CHC -140
SD +110
PHI -125
NYM -120
If I continue to post plays over the course of the season, you're going to see me play the same team over and over, just because my system sees them as being better than vegas does. Looks like this year, it's going to be San Diego, Tampa Bay, and Philadelphia.
I made a lot of money on Pittsburgh and KC in the second half of the season last year due to this.
With pitchers making their last spring starts, I should start seeing less variance in the system.
The stupid, stupid Indians once again snatched defeat from the jaws of winning me money, but overall the calculator went 7-3 yesterday. Not too bad at all.
Today's plays:
PIT +125 (the system seems to dislike the Reds)
TBA +145
CLE -130 (here we go again)
ARI +110
COL +115
MIL +105 (big play. Ben Sheets' last spring start)
SDN Even
NYY -160
4-3 Yesterday. Another batch of split squad games, meaning a lot less lines to work with.
5 plays today:
CLE (is it funny yet?) +115
NYY -115 (a caveat here, TOR does not have a starting pitcher. This is a game pitched entirely by the bullpen, according to MLB.)
PHI -105
FLA -110
MIN +110
3-0 yesterday, with 2 ties. Apparently, ties are like kissing your sister, but I don't have a sister, so I tried it on someone else's. I apparently like ties.
Today's eleven plays:
NYY +105
TBA +150
CLE! -130
NYM -140
BAL -140
SDN -125
TEX -130
KCA +135
OAK +110
CHC -125
LAA +110
